TanHoldings and TSLF Supports NMI Junior National Badminton Team in Pacific U15 Invitation Team Challenge 2023

An exciting opportunity for the young players of the Northern Mariana Islands has been made possible through the support of Tan Siu Lin Foundation and TanHoldings along with Badminton Oceania, Northern Marianas Sports Association, and the Governor’s Office. The NMI Junior National Badminton Team is set to showcase their skills on an international stage as they participate in the Pacific Under 15 Invitation Team Challenge 2023, held in Auckland, New Zealand.

The Team Challenge will be held simultaneously with the Victor Oceania Junior Mixed Team Championships 2023. This synchronization provides a unique platform for under 15 players to immerse themselves in an international competitive environment. They will have the privilege of playing alongside the continent’s most talented Under 19 players, with technical officials, live scoring, medal presentations, and all the thrilling elements that define a high-stakes tournament.

The participation of the NMI Junior National Badminton Team in the Pacific U15 Invitation Team Challenge is an extraordinary opportunity for young athletes of NMI to gain valuable experience and exposure on an international level. TSLF Donates $5,000 to the Northern Mariana Islands Basketball Federation

TanHoldings, celebrating its 50th Anniversary, continues its commitment to community development through the philanthropic efforts of the Tan Siu Lin Foundation. In a gesture of support for sports and youth engagement, the foundation recently presented a $5,000 donation to the Northern Mariana Islands Basketball Federation. The occasion took place during the conclusion of the 2022 Marianas Village Cup held at the TSL Sports Complex.

During the ceremony, the Tan Siu Lin Foundation further emphasized its dedication to fostering athletic talent and promoting basketball across Saipan. Recognizing the importance of providing resources to local basketball clubs, the foundation contributed basketball equipment valued at $1,000 to several clubs, including the Ol’Aces, MadFlex, Rollers, Sixers, and Titans.

The partnership between TanHoldings and the Northern Mariana Islands Basketball Federation reflects the shared vision of promoting sports development and fostering talent within the region.

TanHoldings President and CEO gets appointed to the Travel and Tourism Advisory Board

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo appointed TanHoldings President and CEO Jerry Tan to the national U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board (TTAB) last Friday, January 13.

Along with 31 other individuals from around the country, Tan will advise the Commerce secretary regarding the effects of government policies on the tourism and travel industry of the USA. They will also provide counsel on current issues to maintain its sustainable growth, given that the tourism industry is the nation’s economic engine.

The 32 appointees, Tan included, are considered organization and business leaders in the travel industry. They are regarded as representatives of the state and the groups that are directly involved in the American tourism landscape.

“The U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board plays a vital role in providing expert recommendations and industry insight to optimize the American travel experience. I look forward to working with new and returning members,” said Raimondo.

A wide range of issues and policies have been handled by the TTAB including travel facilitation, visa policy, infrastructure, aviation security, tourism research, climate, and economic sustainability.

TanHoldings Takes Part in the 71st Operation Christmas Drop

In the spirit of Christmas, TanHoldings, through Cosmos Distributing Co. and Mariana Express Lines, is honored to be part of the 71st Operation Christmas Drop.

This annual tradition is a partnership between the military forces and private organizations with the goal to transport and drop necessities and gifts to remote regions throughout the Pacific.

This year, around 200 boxes will be airdropped to 57 different islands until Friday, December 9. TanHoldings continues to look forward to participate in meaningful activities such as these.

Saipan Celebrates EAFF’s 20th Anniversary

Northern Mariana Islands Football Association (NMIFA) President Jerry Tan, along with local dignitaries Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Delegate Gregorio “Kilili” Sablan welcomed the East Asian Football Federation (EAFF) to Saipan to honor and celebrate their 20th anniversary last November 11.

EAFF Executive Committee members, staff, and guests were at the Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan to witness the momentous occasion. NMIFA officials, members, and other NMI soccer stakeholders also graced the event.

In his speech, EAFF President Du Zhaocai recognized the NMIFA not only for its various achievements but also for the people behind the federation’s success.

Jerry Tan also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the EAFF for sharing this milestone to the Northern Mariana Islands and its soccer community. For him, the unconditional support of the EAFF is the reason why NMIFA continues to grow.

“It means a lot to us for the EAFF family to come down and visit not just to celebrate this anniversary but also to take a look at what we have done for NMI soccer,” Tan said.

Tan Siu Lin Innovation Hub Opens at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University

With the purpose of providing a more flexible learning experience for the School of Hotel and Tourism (SHTM) of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Tan Siu Lin Innovation Hub has been opened last October 18, 2022 with the unwavering support of the Tan Siu Lin Foundation.

Containing specialized software and state-of-the-art digital equipment for the tourism and hospitality industry, the innovation hub aims to continuously foster the creativity of SHTM students by providing the necessary resources to aid their growth as budding professionals. This makes the hub one of the major facilities of the university.

The innovation hub was officially opened by Dr. Tan Siu Lin, Founder of the Tan Siu Lin Foundation; Mrs. Jennifer Su Tan, Tan Siu Lin Foundation Hong Kong Executive Director; Dr. Miranda Lou, Executive Vice President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University; and Professor Kaye Chon, SHTM Dean, Chair Professor and Walter and Wendy Kwok Family Foundation Professor in International Hospitality Management.

The SHTM of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University treats the opening of the Tan Siu Lin Innovation Hub as a turning point towards their development and determination to progress along with the changes brought by the digital age.

TanHoldings Conducts 5K Walkathon for its 50th Anniversary

All roads led to TanHoldings’ 5K Walkathon!

In celebration of TanHoldings’ 50th Anniversary, a walkathon was held to promote one of the group’s advocacies: getting fit.

Held in Guam, Palau, Pohnpei, Rota, Saipan and Yap on three dates from September 6-8, 2022,  the walk drew 815 attendees composed mostly of employees, joined by friends and family members.

It was a meaningful way to celebrate the milestone, have fun, and get fit all at the same time. This event wouldn’t be possible and successful without the active cooperation and teamwork of the participants involved.

September Declared as “We Will Never Forget: Field of Heroes Month”

With an aim to support the bereaved families of the tragic incident, both the public and private sectors gathered this year as 2022 marks the 21st anniversary of the 9/11 attacks which took place last September 11, 2001.

TanHoldings Vice President for Corporate Affairs and Human Resources Catherine Attao-Toves and TanHoldings President and CEO Jerry Tan joined Gov. Ralph DLG Torres as he signed a proclamation declaring September as “We Will Never Forget: Field of Heroes Month” last September 8, 2022 at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport. Acting Saipan mayor Ana Demapan-Castro, Transportation Security Administration director Gary Myers, and TanHoldings Corporate Business Development Vice President Alex Sablan were also in the proclamation signing.

“The events of September 11, 2001, profoundly affected us all, showing our nation’s resilience in the face of tragedy, unifying and strengthening our resolve against global terrorism; and each year, citizens across our nation honor and remember those who lost their lives during these tragic events… and we continue to offer support to the families who lost loved ones in the devastating events of that day through prayer and reflection,” Torres said.

“We want to always bring into the attention of the community so that even the young people can remember what happened 21 years ago. This is important not only for us adults but also young people to understand what sacrifices happened in this event,” said Tan.

The proclamation signing was followed by the “We Will Never Forget” motorcade on September 10 at the American Memorial Park to commemorate the lives of those who passed away performing their sworn duties.

TanHoldings Participates in the 78th Guam Liberation Day Parade

After the two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the Liberation Day celebration is finally back and alive in Hagåtña. With the central theme “The Strength to Overcome, the Faith to Persevere,” the 78th Guam Liberation Day celebration last July 21 was hosted by the Mayors’ Council of Guam, Guam Office of the Governor, and the Guam Visitors Bureau. Part of the festivities was the Liberation Day Parade wherein floats of various villages and organizations were at display. The TanHoldings team gladly participated in the parade with their gold-themed float decorated with ornamental plants and containing the logos of their various SBUs. With everyone’s teamwork, the TanHoldings float bagged the People’s Choice Award for the business category.

TSL Foundation Donates to SCC’s Scholarship Program

 

As part of their support for the Saipan Chamber of Commerce’s (SCC) scholarship program, Tan Siu Lin Foundation, TanHoldings’ charitable arm, has signed up as a gold sponsor for the Chamber’s annual golf tournament.

Merlie Tolentino, Executive Director of Tan Siu Lin Foundation, presented a check amounting to $2,500 to SCC officials headed by its president Joe Guerrero. A part of the proceeds from the event will be allotted for the Chamber’s scholarship program which helps local students in pursuing higher education.

Tolentino said that they will continue to help give local students opportunities to further their education since these will help hone their knowledge, skills, and values for the future. Guerrero on the other hand, thanked TanHoldings and Tan Siu Lin Foundation for the continued partnership and support, not only to SCC, but also to the rest of the NMI community.

TanHoldings Celebrates Earth Day 2022

With its purpose to raise awareness and protect the environment as part of their corporate social responsibility practices, TanHoldings virtually celebrated Earth Day last April 22, 2022. The online program aims to advocate for this year’s Earth Day theme, “Invest in our Planet”.

Speakers from various Strategic Business Units such as POI Aviation, D&Q International Distributors, and AB Risk Solutions hosted the virtual program wherein relevant videos were played to inform the audience regarding the prevalent problems the Earth is facing, specifically plastic pollution.

                                                                                                       

The highlight of the event is the launch of the “Zero Plastic, Make it a Habit” campaign, encouraging the Strategic Business Units to look at ways on how plastic consumption can be reduced in their respective units. Activities related to quarterly-themes were launched to sustain engagement within the group.

“Much is needed from us, not just as a business, but also as individuals; because every day, our choices have a direct impact on our environment. Let’s enjoy and learn from this virtual celebration and let’s be on our way to reducing plastic use across all our business units,” says Jerry Tan, CEO and President of TanHoldings.

They ended the program by asking team members to express their commitment through submitting their own environmental pledges via an online form.

Earth Day is one of the biggest celebrations honoring the birth of the environmental movement. It takes place annually on the 22nd of April.

Tan Siu Lin Foundation Aids the Northern Marianas College

Tan Siu Lin Foundation, the charitable arm of TanHoldings, donates $3,000 to Northern Marianas College’s 17th Annual NMC Foundation Golf Tournament on March 19.

TSL Foundation keeps up to its pledge to help and sustain the workforce development in the CNMI by supporting education.

“We support the college in its efforts to enhance its programs and services for students who are working to improve their lives through education. We wish the best of luck also to all the players in this year’s tournament,” TanHoldings CEO Jerry Tan said.

Tan Siu Lin Foundation will Officially Sponsor Pika Fest

Tan Siu Lin Foundation, the charitable arm of TanHoldings, handed over a donation worth $5,000 to the Marianas Visitors Authority (MVA) to support the 18th Annual Tinian Hot Pepper Festival that will be held on March 11-13, 2022.

“Pika Fest” is one of the significant events of MVA that aims to exhibit Tinian’s culture, music, dance, food, particularly the spicy ones called the island’s pika “Donne Sali” or hot pepper.

Affirming TSL’s support and commitment to “Pika Fest,” TSL Foundation executive director Merlie Tolentino turned over the donation last Monday to the MVA Community Project Specialist Ray Villagomez.

“The Tan Siu Lin Foundation joins the Marianas Visitors Authority and the people of Tinian in celebrating the Pika Fest, which is one of the most popular events in the NMI. We hope to see Tinian residents sharing a weekend of fun and learning experience with Saipan and other off-island visitors,” Tolentino said.

Tango Theatres is a Proud Member of the 12th Toys for Tots in Guam

Tango Theatres participates in the 12th “Toys for Tots” program in Guam by being one of the local drop-off locations for the annual toy drive, spearheaded by the Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz and the Guam Chamber of Commerce.

Tango Theatres’ staff has led the turnover of the toys collected from its customers last December 7, 2021, to the representatives of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.

AB Risk Solutions Partners with “Toys for Tots”

 

TanHoldings’ AB Risk Solutions is an official partner for “Toys for Tots” for this year’s holiday season.

“Toys for Tots” is a charitable program initiated by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and spearheaded by Associated Students of Northern Marianas College and the Saipan Chamber of Commerce, aiming to continually reach unprivileged children of the community by giving them toys during the holiday season.

Tango Theatres’ Marketing Manager Constance “Connie” Camat was recently named as one of the recipients of the prestigious National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) 2021 CinemaCon Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship. This scholarship aims to build a pathway to participation in NATO for people who are currently underrepresented among the association’s volunteers. The scholarship is awarded to employees of NATO member companies in the US and the territories. Camat will be attending high-level meetings of movie industry experts at the annual CinemaCon from August 22-26, 2021, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada.
 “This scholarship is my once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to gain knowledge and interact with industry experts. I am looking to gain a global perspective on movie distribution and exhibition and raise awareness among filmmakers and distributors that Guam is a melting pot of cultures where their movies and products will be appreciated by a diverse community of movie enthusiasts,” said Camat.
