Tan Holdings joins Earth Hour

For the 7th straight year, Tan Holdings and Strategic Business Units participated in the annual Earth Hour celebration, held on the last Saturday of March, from 8:30-9:30pm.
This year was especially notable in that the activity has spread amongst many families that make up the 700+ employees under Tan Holdings and its SBUs.
Lina Dimaano, Vice-President said: “This is a welcome surprise. We have always given importance to the environment, but to see individual and family-based participation like we have this year, is a testament that our team members are themselves becoming stewards of positive change.”
The local newspaper, the Saipan Tribune came out with an article featuring images of Tan Holdings families enjoying different activities during the one hour Earth Hour celebration.
Jerry Tan, President of Tan Holdings said: “This is what Earth Hour is all about. We are part of a global community that has resolved to help lessen the impact of climate change. And our goal is to go beyond the “hour.” We want the stewardship of our environment to be a daily habit for each and every team member under Tan Holdings.

Tan Holdings charters Boy Scouts CNMI District

Tan Holdings chartes Boy Scout CNMITan Holdings had pledged to charter and support the revival of the Boy Scouts of America Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) District.

Tan Holdings Corporate Consultant Dave Sablan said that three companies within the Tan Holdings organization will be volunteering their supervision.The three comprise these volunteers; Argie Buensalido of CTSI Logistics, Frank Cabrera and Melvin Masga of Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan, and Kinty Elieisar of D&Q.

The new effort to revive the charter will start small, ensuring everything is in place before the recruitment of the members begins, District Chair Wayne Gillespie stated


Elementary students receive new sportswear from the Tan Siu Lin Foundation

Students from Dandan Elementary School (photo from Saipan Tribune)Over 5,000 new dri-fit shirts were distributed to students in 11 public elementary schools on Saipan last month courtesy of the Tan Siu Lin Foundation. The shirts were given to Garapan, William S. Reyes, Tanapag, Kagman, San Antonio, Koberville, Dandan,Oleai, GTC, San Vicente, and Rota elementary schools.

Tan Holdings President and CEO Jerry Tan personally accompanied the distribution team and helped in handing out the shirts at each school. Each student received a dri-fit shirt, custom printed with the logo of their respective school.  These shirts are the same quality used for Saipan Soccer School athletes and the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association.

The teachers and staff also received Polo shirts by Ralph Lauren custom printed with their respective school logos as well.

Jerry Tan shared the foundation’s passion and commitment on the value of education and sports and hopes this small gesture will be cherished by the children.

Tan Holdings and CTSI Logistics raise funds for PhilippineTyphoon Haiyan victims

Tan Holdings, CTSI Logistics Employees and the TSL Foundation reach out to Super Typhoon Haiyan SurvivorsEmployees from the different companies under Tan Holdings, as well as sister company CTSI Logistics, donated over fifty thousand dollars to the survivors of Super Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

Tan Holdings President and CTSI Logistics CEO Jerry Tan represented the companies in a turnover ceremony held with Philippine Consul General BayaniMangibin in Guam. Two checks amounting to

$27,874 and $25,200 representing the donations from employees of Tan Holdings and CTSI Logistics, respectively, were given to the consulate. The Tan Siu Lin Foundation also helped by matching the amounts raised by the employees.

Super Typhoon Haiyan is considered to be one of the strongest typhoons in history, leaving over four thousand dead, and over five hundred thousand structures damaged.

UOG Building renamed in honor of Tan Family Matriarch

UOG Building renamed in honor of Tan Family Matriarch Tan Holdings

September 19 marked a momentous day for the Tan family as the University of Guam (UOG) renamed its English and Communication Building as the “Tan Lam Pek Kim English and Communication Building” in honor of the matriarch of the Tan family.

The naming of the building comes from the long time support of the Tan family to the University and its foundation. Last November 2012, the Tan Siu Lin Foundation became the first one-million dollar donor to the UOG 60th Anniversary Capital Campaign.

Tan Holdings Sportsfest 2013

2013 TH Sportsfest_lowTeam members from all Saipan-based SBUs (Strategic Business Unit) of Tan Holdings came together for the first Tan Holdings Sports fest.

The two-day event from June 29 to 30 featured a friendly competition of coed basketball, volleyball, futsal, badminton, ping pong, dodge ball and cheering and was held at three different venues.

Participating companies were Kanoa Resort, Century Tours, POI Aviation, Fiesta Resort and Spa, Century Hotel, CTSI Logistics, D&Q Distribution, Cosmos Distribution and Tan Holdings (JP Plaza / TSL Plaza).

George Chiu speaks at China Tourism Symposium

George Chiu Talks in a panel in Outbound ChinaTan Holdings Executive Vice President George Chiu joined experts from the tourism industry on a panel at the China Outbound Travel Market Symposium to discuss the challenges Guam faces as they attract the vast Chinese tourist market.

The afternoon panel engaged its audience on how culture and infrastructure are important factors in the growing tourism market. Chiu discussed what he deems important: to provide the Chinese tourists an authentic cultural experience and to have the infrastructure to accommodate the growing number of visitors.

The China Outbound Travel Market Symposium was held last May 22 at the Hyatt Regency Guam.

Relay for Life 2013

Relay for Life 2013Team members from Tan Holdings and its Strategic Business Units; CTSI Logistics Guam, Fiesta Resort Guam, Century Plaza, Blue Bay Petroleum, Cosmos Distributing, Tango Theaters, D&Q, and Asia Pacific Airlines, raised their banners as they help to fight Cancer in Relay for Life 2013, held last May 24 at Mangilao, Guam.

The annual event aims to raise funds for the American Cancer Society for research and treatment of the disease. The 12-hour event also pays tribute to cancer survivors as well as giving honor to those who lost their battles.

Relay for Life 2013 raised half a million dollars; thanks to the support and efforts of the 78 teams and 594 individuals who participated.

 

Jerry Tan appointed as Taiwan Consultant

s Club International 204 District Administrator Monito CoTan Holdings President and CTSI Logistics CEO Jerry Tan had been appointed by Taiwan as their official consultant for their overseas compatriot affairs commission in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).

Monito S. Co, Lion’s Club International District 204 District Administrator, announced Tan’s appointment in a brief ceremony held at Kanoa Resort Saipan. Co shared that Tan’s appointment is highly significant for the development of the CNMI, particularly in its economy.

Tan will coordinate with the Taiwanese government on issues significant to the region and to Taiwan.

Tree Planting with MINA and DEQ

Tree planting with MINA and DEQTan Holdings, along with the with the Mariana Islands Nature Alliance (MINA) and the Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) planted 120 Coconut Trees on Laolao Bay last April 19 as part of the Environmental Awareness Month and CNMI Earth Day celebrations.

60 company executives with MINA and DEQ staff and volunteers participated in the event, making it the largest tree planting activity turnout for Tan Holdings.

Lina Dimaano, Tan Holdings Vice President for Finance, said Tan Holdings plans to hold quarterly tree planting events in order to promote environmental stewardship within the organization and to ensure sustainability for future generations.

Tan Holdings planted 400 Flame Trees throughout the island last year to mark their 40th anniversary in doing business in Micronesia.

The Tan Siu Lin Foundation has joined the 32nd Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival as a sponsor by donating $3,000 worth of free hotel accommodations to delegates from Kiribati, Chuuk, and Guam.

Tan Holdings Corporate Consultant David Sablan and Tan Siu Lin Foundation Manager Maggie Sablan shared that the foundation is honored to partner with the council and the festival organizers for the hospitality demonstrated to the delegates. David Sablan added that the foundation was very happy to be part of the festivity and understands its significance not only the people of Saipan but to the enhancement of the island’s tourism.

Festival Coordinator Parker Yobei said the the Tan Siu Lin Foundation has always been a proud supporter of the festival. He added his acknowledgement to the foundation’s efforts to promote, preserve, and perpetuate the cultural heritage of the Northern Marianas and the Commonwealth region.

The 32nd Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival occurred last April 19 to 21 at the Susupe, Saipan.

A hearty thanks was given to Tan Holdings as the Empty Vessel Foundation expressed their appreciation for the company’s recent donation of food, household items and personal items to help those in need in the Saipan community. The foundation also expresses its gratitude for the past monetary donation of Tan Holdings towards the Kenya hunger-drive project.

The Empty Vessel Ministry Foundation aims to help and make a difference in the lives of the families in need in Saipan, Kenya, Bangladesh and the Philippines.

Tan Holdings holds annual JP Walk

IMG_4157300 participants remembered and celebrated the memories of John “JP” Pangelinan, former Tan Holdings executive and Saipan Tribune publisher, last February 23 at the 5th JP Walk hosted by Tan Holdings.

Family, friends, former colleagues, co-workers and other community members gathered across the JP Center along Beach Road as early as 5 a.m. to begin the three-mile walkathon. The event served as both a tribute and a fundraiser that raised more than $2,000.

John Pangelinan died at the age of 70 after his long battle with lung cancer. Since his death, Tan Holdings has hosted the JP Walk in his honor.
