The Marianas Walking Association teamed up with Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan to host the annual SOPHIA Walk last May 18.
The event drew more than a hundred participants with the youngest and oldest walkers receiving recognition for their involvement. The oldest female walker, Jo Izumi, served as the spokeswoman for the Japanese visitors and delivered the opening remarks of the event. Izumi is 92 years old.
Named after the former First Lady of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Island (CNMI), SOPHIA stands for Saipan Outdoor Physical Health Invigorating Adventure.
