The CNMI Department of Fire & EMS, headed by Commissioner Norita held the first-ever Spam Cook-Off for the department last May 30th.
D&Q, the exclusive distributor of Hormel products, sponsored the event with T-shorts, gift bags, and of course, the ubiquitous Spam, which is very popular in the islands.
D&Q Saipan GM Max Kretzers said: “This is a novel way to build a good relationship with the people tasked to protect and help us during emergencies. Our fire fighters and EMS staff are often overlooked. It’s good to have some fun with them for a change.”
The event showed a lighter side to the usually more serious job of being a fire fighter and paramedic. Held at the Saipan Fire Station, the contest featured 15 entrants, with the goal of putting together the most unique and creative preparation Spam.
The winner of the contest was the team of Capt. Jesse Mesa and Patrick George.
Commissioner Norita mentioned that: “Everyone needs some time out to have some fun. And we are glad that the business community doesn’t hesitate to lend a helping hand.”
