Cabrera is the proud owner of a new Kia Soul

Joseph Raymond Dela Cruz Cabrera had a late holiday gift from Santa in the form of a brand new 2016 Kia Soul after winning in the redrawing of the grand prize of the P&G Great Car Giveaway promo.
The grand prize was redrawn after the first winner, Xu Hua Ting, was found ineligible since his wife is an employee of the store where the winning raffle ticket was drawn.

The re-raffle was held at the D&Q office in Lower Base last week with Cabrera’s ticket picked to win the 2016 subcompact crossover SUV.

Cabrera got his car last Friday from D&Q officials led by resident manager Max Kretzers, sales and marketing coordinator Jaki Fujihara, and assistant sales manager and P&G product manager Abby Inabo-Pangelinan and Joeten Motors general manager Matt Deets.

The 55-year-old San Vicente resident said he was surprised when he received a call from D&Q officials that he was the winner of the car.

“I thought that somebody had already won the car because the promo ended in December. I have no idea and was wondering who won because it is already January. That’s why I was surprised when they called and told me that I was the winner,” said Cabrera.

He chose a two-tone red-white Kia Soul that will replace his second generation Nissan Pathfinder.

A total of $35,000 worth of prizes were given away during the duration of the promo where every purchase of $20 worth of P&G products entitled one to a raffle entry.

Roderick Capili, Merlinda Naputi and Georgia Salas each won an iPad mini; Relito L. Delos Reyes ($1,000), Lina Rose A. Lifoifoi ($750) and Sonia V. Laserna ($500) each received Joeten gift certificates.

Serlin Marlik and Margie Camu both won a brand new generator. Angelo Lastimado had a brand new washer while Frances V. Muna went home with a brand new 42’ LG flat screen television.

Tan Holdings hands out relief kits to villages, shelters

By Frauleine S. Villanueva |Posted on August 25, 2015

Tan Holdings Corp. has been doing its part to be of assistance to Saipan as it recovers from the destruction of Typhoon Soudelor.

Last Aug. 13, Tan Holdings officials, employees, and volunteers went around some villages to visit households and personally deliver much needed relief items.

“We basically provided every home that had an occupant,” vice president for corporate business development Alex Sablan said.

Tan Holdings was able to give 200 relief kits to homes in Tanapag, Achugao, and San Roque.

“While there are many devastated areas, these are the areas that were hit hard,” Sablan said, “We were trying to do our best with what we had.”

Tan Holdings president Jerry Tan led executives and other members of Tan Holdings in visiting residents severely affected by Soudelor.

Items in the relief kits included basic necessities such as canned goods, tissue, soap, detergent, and water, sourced from various companies of Tan Holdings such as Cosmos, D&Q, 880, POI Aviation, Century Tours, and Let’s Go Tours.

Let’s Go Tour’s Razrs were used to deliver relief kits to houses in roads that were too narrow for ordinary vehicles to pass.

Donated futons
Before the winds and rains brought by Tropical Storm Goni picked up last weekend, Tan Holdings was also able to bring futons to the Kagman Community Center and the Aging Center in Chinatown, both identified as long-term shelters.

Twenty-five futons were given to Kagman while 45 were donated to the families seeking shelter in the Aging Center.

Tan Holdings also gave out futons and relief kits to at least a hundred employees that were displaced by Typhoon Soudelor.

The company is looking at expanding the project to also bring relief kits to other villages as it continues to acquire items from off-island and bring them here on Saipan, which is quite a challenge.

Two airlifts already brought in supplies such as LED lanterns, lamps, futons, and 32-gallon water containers.

“We’re just waiting for some more supplies to be shipped in,” Sablan said.

Aside from handing out relief goods, Tan Holdings has also been busy cleaning up around the island.

Cleanup drives were organized in places such as Garapan, where many tourists pass by, and outdoor areas such as Oleai Sports Complex Track and Field/Football Field, and the San Antonio Middle School Football Field.

The winner of the contest was the team of Capt. Jesse Mesa and Patrick George.

Commissioner Norita mentioned that: “Everyone needs some time out to have some fun. And we are glad that the business community doesn’t hesitate to lend a helping hand.”

Dove sponsors NMIFA women’s league

fiesta

Northern Mariana Islands Football Association and D&Q Saipan have reached an agreement recently for the sponsorship of NMIFA women’s league and its other related programs for female soccer players in the CNMI.

D&Q Saipan through one of its suppliers, Unilever, has committed $30,000 for NMIFA’s women’s program for three years. D&Q Saipan resident manager Max P. Kretzers turned in part of the sponsorship money to NMIFA president Jerry Tan in a brief ceremony yesterday at the Oleai Sports Complex Field. Representatives of various football clubs and several female players were present to witness the turnover ceremony.

As part of the agreement, NMIFA’s women’s league will now be called Dove Women’s Football League. Dove is one of the Unilever products D&Q distributes here and in Guam.

“We are happy to be part of this women’s league as we want to help make the sport stronger in the CNMI and encourage more female players to come out and join soccer,” Kretzers said. “Our supplier, Unilever, has some available funds and they are glad to help. Our previous business development manager encourages as to get into sports and connect our products with the sports community so this partnership really fits.”

Tan said the sponsorship money will be used to defray the cost of running the league and other programs for women’s football, such as clinics and more tournaments.

“We are very grateful to D&Q and its supplier, Unilever for their support. As you know, NMIFA is a non-profit group and it’s really costly to run a program, such as the women’s league, yearound. As much as possible we want to minimize the charges and fees that we have to impose to teams, players, and club, so this sponsorship will really help realize that goal,” Tan said.

“It’s (sponsorship) great news to our female players because usually it’s our men’s teams that get help from sponsors. On behalf of NMIFA and its executive and women’s committee, I would like to say thank you to D&Q and Unilever. Their sponsorship just made it more affordable for teams and players to join the league. Also, the sponsorship is very timely because more young female players are into the program,” Tan added.

Seven teams are competing in the Dove Women’s Football League and majority of them are U18 players. Several players in the women’s league are also suiting up for various clubs that are participating in NMIFA’s spring and fall youth leagues.

September 19 marked a momentous day for the Tan family as the University of Guam (UOG) renamed its English and Communication Building as the “Tan Lam Pek Kim English and Communication Building” in honor of the matriarch of the Tan family.

The naming of the building comes from the long time support of the Tan family to the University and its foundation. Last November 2012, the Tan Siu Lin Foundation became the first one-million dollar donor to the UOG 60th Anniversary Capital Campaign.
