Tan Holdings Takes the Lead in Donating Toys to CNMI kids

Community members from Saipan, Tinian and Rota were astounded with delight at the generosity of the Tan Holdings Corporation.  Under the directive of Tan Holdings President Jerry Tan, team members from Tan Holdings and its affiliates donated more than 400 toys for the 2010 CNMI Toy Drive during the company’s Christmas party.

Joining the team members in their spirit of generosity for the season, Jerry donated $500 worth of Joeten gift certificates for each island.  This donation was made in behalf of the Tan Siu Lin Foundation.

Representatives from each island were very thankful for the efforts of Tan Holdings.

On his part, Tan Holdings President Jerry tan was very proud of the efforts of the team members, which paved way for the success of this year’s Toy Drive.  In a statement, he said, “I am extremely grateful to all our employees for sharing a part of their Christmas spirit with the islands.”

Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan Throws Thanksgiving Celebration for the Senior Citizens

For this year, Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan once again treated the man’amko to a sumptuous luncheon at the Hibiscus Hall.  The luncheon was a seven-course banquet that included healthy and delicious meals.

The luncheon was made even more special as the elderly was also provided with a few moments of cultural entertainment.

The man’amko was served by the hotel’s supervisors and managers.

Food and Beverage Manager Das Krishnan said Fiesta Resort and Spa has made this luncheon treat for the man’amko an annual activity as a way to show their appreciation to the senior citizens who are an important part of the community.

Tan Siu Lin Foundation Co-Sponsors Medical Mission Organized by Lions Club International

Tan Siu Lin Foundation joined hands with several companies on Saipan to sponsor a medical mission organized by the Lions Club International District 204.

It was reported that more than 300 community members benefited from the medical mission.

The medical mission took place at the Civic Center Basketball Court in Susupe last Nov. 13.

Overall, the medical mission was deemed to be a very successful pursuit.

Established in 1917, Lions Club International is the world’s largest service-oriented organization with more than 1.3 million members in about 45,000 clubs around the world.

Citing the importance of strengthening family literacy programs, Tan Siu Lin Foundation recently gave donations for the Motheread program.

Motheread is a nationally-acclaimed family literacy program that teaches parents to use stories to improve their children’s academic skills in reading, writing, comprehension and critical thinking.

Through its generous donation, Tan Siu Lin Foundation helped in funding the training of seventeen community volunteers who became certified Motheread parent-trainers.

Apart from Tan Siu Lin Foundation, other major sponsors for the training program for Motheread were the Bank of Hawaii Charitable Foundation, DFS Saipan, the Bank of Guam and the Bank of Saipan.

APA – HNL Receives Recognition from TSA

By ardently supporting the Aviation and Transportation Security Act and forming a strong partnership with agencies that seek to fight terrorism in the field, Asia Pacific Airlines was duly awarded by the TSA – HNL.

APA was granted with a certificate of appreciation during the TSA – HNL’s Awards Ceremony & Diversity Day, which was celebrated on October 27.

It was APA Station Representative Jimmy Sy who received the certificate from Federal Security Director Glen R. Kajiyama.

Tan Holdings and MINA Puts up a Recyclable Trash bin at Mt. Tapochao

Together with the Mariana Islands Nature Alliance (MINA) representatives, Tan Holdings EXCO and the managers of Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan, Saipan Grand Hotel and Century Hotel came together on September 28 to push through with the Adopt-a-Bin project for Mt. Tapochao.

The group picked up trash and debris around the area and proceeded with putting up the 100% recycled trash bin intended for the project.

Prior to the day of the installation of the trash bin, MINA had given its approval for the Adopt-a-Bin project that Tan Holdings wanted to pursue for Mt. Tapochao.

Tan Holdings had sought the approval of MINA for Mt. Tapochao to further its commitment of serving the community through environmental initiatives in the form of cleanup drives and rehabilitation and beautification projects.

Tan Holdings President Jerry Tan also presented a check for $1,000 to MINA to further the company’s support for programs that MINA organizes. .

Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan, Saipan Grand Hotel and Century Hotel are the adopting organizations for Mt. Tapochao.  As such, the responsibility of conducting cleanups on the site lies with these hotels.

Tan Holdings Affiliates Joins the 25th International Coastal Cleanup

The staff and management of several Tan Holdings affiliates joined individuals from different companies and organizations in upholding environmental protection for the 25th International Coastal Cleanup (ICC).

Among the affiliates who took part in this event were CTSI Logistics – Saipan, POI Aviation, D&Q, Cosmos, Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan, Saipan Grand Hotel, Century Hotel, Century Insurance, Saipan Tribune, L&T, Century Tours & Travel and Century Finance.

The ICC is the world’s largest volunteer effort to help protect the ocean.  For this activity, the volunteers’ tasks were to clean up coastal areas, roadways and tourist spots.

The 25th International Coastal Cleanup was held on Saturday, September 25.

Tan Holdings Supports Junior Achievement Program

An entrepreneurship program for the youth was launched by the Junior Achievement of Guam on August 28, Saturday.

Volunteer mentors for the program comprised of business community representatives, among these were four representatives from Tan Holdings affiliates.  The representatives were Kit Lanuza and Bojo Molina from Tango Theatres, Joey Miranda III from Century Plaza and Jesse Santos from D&Q.

Other volunteer mentors were from the Bank of Hawaii, First Hawaiian Bank, Bank of Guam, Citibank, ANZ Bank, Pacific Islands Club, Xerox, NAVFAC, Calvo’s Select Care and IT&E.

A kick-off pep rally will be held on September 25 at the Harvest Family Life Center followed a month after the Junior Achievement program was launched.

Junior Achievement is an internationally-recognized group committed to educational endeavors for the youth.

TSL Foundation Give Awards to Student Athletes

Three student athletes gained recognition for their impressive athletic performance and standing.  The awarding ceremony for the chosen students took place on August 23 at the TSL plaza.

The awardees were:  Christian Miller, Negahr Rastguiy, Reylynn Sapong and Douglas Dillay.

Miller and Rastguiy were voted Tan Siu Lin Foundation/NMASA Athletes of the Month for June; Sapong was the Female Student Athlete of the Month for May while Dillay was her counterpart in the Male category for the said month.

All of the awardees personally received their medals from TSL Foundation Manager Ed Arriola, except for Dillay, who couldn’t make it to the ceremony.  Aside from the medals, the awardees also received $25 gift card courtesy of Shirley’s Coffee Shop and $50 gift certificate from Modern Stationary.

TSL Foundation Donates Educational Tax Credit to NMTI

Tan Siu Lin Foundation gave $10,000 worth of educational tax credit donation to the Northern Marianas Trade Institute (NMTI) following a positive outcome during the foundation’s tour and orientation in the school.

The donation to the institution was handed over by Tan Holdings President and Tan Siu Lin Foundation Vice-Chair, Jerry Tan.  Anthony Pellegrino, NMTI President, received the donation.

Asked on how the donation will be spent, the school officials say that they will allocate it to purchase materials and supplies for the school.

NMTI provides learning programs in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, masonry, heating ventilation and air conditioning, welding, culinary arts, automotive, sewing and hospitality industry.

First 5 on 5 Beach Soccer Tournament Held at the Fiesta Beach Front

Together with Tan Holdings, Pacific Trading and Docomo as sponsors, Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan hosted the first-ever 5 on 5 Beach Soccer Tournament at the Fiesta Beach front.

The tournament’s participants were:  Fiesta Team, Hari & the Bengal Tigers, Fan Chew, Pat & Son, IT&E, Suns of the Beaches, OJ & Ladies First.

IT&E, Suns of the Beaches and Fan Chew won the first, second and third place, respectively.

Fiesta Guam’s Jefferson Caraig Wins GHRA Yoka Yoka Scholarship Award

Guam Hotel & Restaurant Association’s (GHRA) Yoka Yoka Scholarship Awards has commenced and Jefferson Caraig, Wait Staff of the Fiesta Resort Guam, was selected as one of the scholars.

The Yoka Yoka Scholarship Awards Program is open to all industry employees interested in enhancing the depth and scope of their knowledge in the hospitality industry with emphasis on learning service “Japanese-style”.

Caraig competed against employees from other GHRA member organizations such as City Hill, Hilton Guam Resort & Spa, Outrigger Guam Resort, Pacific Islands Club, Proa Restaurant, TGI Friday’s, and Watabe Guam Inc.

Caraig and four other winners will travel to Fukuoka, Japan for an intensive week long training scheduled for August 23 to 29.

Tan Holdings Affiliates Join Guam Museum Golf Tournament

Blue Bay Petroleum, Tango Theatres and CTSI Logistics – Guam took part in the 3rd Annual Guam Museum Golf Tournament.

The event, held on July 10 at the Onward Talofofo Golf Club, aims to raise funds for the building project named the Guam Institute of Natural History and Cultural Heritage, home of the Guam Museum.

Blue Bay provided the official goodie bags for the tourney, while Tango and CTSI sponsored a hole in the event.

RCS Thanks TSL Foundation for Assistance

TSL Foundation was recently acknowledged for the assistance it provided to the RCS School of Music during their 4th Musical Recital.

The recital put the spotlight on 44 young students who displayed their talents in singing and playing the piano and guitar.

The recital was held at the Agana Auditorium on June 19.

Tan Holdings President Named as 25th Citizen of the Year Awardee

Tan Holdings President Jerry Tan was the recipient of the Rotary Club of Saipan’s 25th Citizen of the Year award on July 29 at the Pacific Island Club.

The award was given to Tan to merit his contributions to the community.  These include his efforts to establish and uphold youth and adult sports organizations on the island and the various cleanup projects that he has led his companies and organizations to.

In a statement made right after he received the award, Tan said, “It is important that we all want to do our share in giving back to the community.”

Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan Chefs Won Award in Chef’s Competition

The Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan team was much honored that two of their team members won an award at the recently-held Taste of the Marianas Food Festival and Beer Garden.

Hermie Coronejo and Aurelio Cayabyab, Jr. joined as a tandem and won the event’s Chef’s Competition.

Coronejo and Cayabyab were awarded with the Chef’s Competition perpetual trophy, a small bag of different Angus beef products and a cash prize worth $500.

Fiesta Guam Raises Money for American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life

Team members of the Fiesta Resort Guam donated $1500 to the American Cancer Society on June 3,

The said donation is in support of the recently-held Relay for Life, which was held on May 28-29, 2010 at the George Washington High School Track.

The team members raised money by purchasing logo t-shirts or making monetary pledges to support the event.

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.
