TSL Foundation Donates Educational Tax Credit to NMTI

Tan Siu Lin Foundation gave $10,000 worth of educational tax credit donation to the Northern Marianas Trade Institute (NMTI) following a positive outcome during the foundation’s tour and orientation in the school.

The donation to the institution was handed over by Tan Holdings President and Tan Siu Lin Foundation Vice-Chair, Jerry Tan.  Anthony Pellegrino, NMTI President, received the donation.

Asked on how the donation will be spent, the school officials say that they will allocate it to purchase materials and supplies for the school.

NMTI provides learning programs in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, masonry, heating ventilation and air conditioning, welding, culinary arts, automotive, sewing and hospitality industry.

First 5 on 5 Beach Soccer Tournament Held at the Fiesta Beach Front

Together with Tan Holdings, Pacific Trading and Docomo as sponsors, Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan hosted the first-ever 5 on 5 Beach Soccer Tournament at the Fiesta Beach front.

The tournament’s participants were:  Fiesta Team, Hari & the Bengal Tigers, Fan Chew, Pat & Son, IT&E, Suns of the Beaches, OJ & Ladies First.

IT&E, Suns of the Beaches and Fan Chew won the first, second and third place, respectively.

Fiesta Guam’s Jefferson Caraig Wins GHRA Yoka Yoka Scholarship Award

Guam Hotel & Restaurant Association’s (GHRA) Yoka Yoka Scholarship Awards has commenced and Jefferson Caraig, Wait Staff of the Fiesta Resort Guam, was selected as one of the scholars.

The Yoka Yoka Scholarship Awards Program is open to all industry employees interested in enhancing the depth and scope of their knowledge in the hospitality industry with emphasis on learning service “Japanese-style”.

Caraig competed against employees from other GHRA member organizations such as City Hill, Hilton Guam Resort & Spa, Outrigger Guam Resort, Pacific Islands Club, Proa Restaurant, TGI Friday’s, and Watabe Guam Inc.

Caraig and four other winners will travel to Fukuoka, Japan for an intensive week long training scheduled for August 23 to 29.

Tan Holdings Affiliates Join Guam Museum Golf Tournament

Blue Bay Petroleum, Tango Theatres and CTSI Logistics – Guam took part in the 3rd Annual Guam Museum Golf Tournament.

The event, held on July 10 at the Onward Talofofo Golf Club, aims to raise funds for the building project named the Guam Institute of Natural History and Cultural Heritage, home of the Guam Museum.

Blue Bay provided the official goodie bags for the tourney, while Tango and CTSI sponsored a hole in the event.

RCS Thanks TSL Foundation for Assistance

TSL Foundation was recently acknowledged for the assistance it provided to the RCS School of Music during their 4th Musical Recital.

The recital put the spotlight on 44 young students who displayed their talents in singing and playing the piano and guitar.

The recital was held at the Agana Auditorium on June 19.

Tan Holdings President Named as 25th Citizen of the Year Awardee

Tan Holdings President Jerry Tan was the recipient of the Rotary Club of Saipan’s 25th Citizen of the Year award on July 29 at the Pacific Island Club.

The award was given to Tan to merit his contributions to the community.  These include his efforts to establish and uphold youth and adult sports organizations on the island and the various cleanup projects that he has led his companies and organizations to.

In a statement made right after he received the award, Tan said, “It is important that we all want to do our share in giving back to the community.”

Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan Chefs Won Award in Chef’s Competition

The Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan team was much honored that two of their team members won an award at the recently-held Taste of the Marianas Food Festival and Beer Garden.

Hermie Coronejo and Aurelio Cayabyab, Jr. joined as a tandem and won the event’s Chef’s Competition.

Coronejo and Cayabyab were awarded with the Chef’s Competition perpetual trophy, a small bag of different Angus beef products and a cash prize worth $500.

Fiesta Guam Raises Money for American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life

Team members of the Fiesta Resort Guam donated $1500 to the American Cancer Society on June 3,

The said donation is in support of the recently-held Relay for Life, which was held on May 28-29, 2010 at the George Washington High School Track.

The team members raised money by purchasing logo t-shirts or making monetary pledges to support the event.

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.

Fiesta Guam Team Members Receive GVB HERO Awards

The Guam Visitors Bureau has once again held the annual Excellence in Tourism Awards and two team members from Fiesta Resort Guam were named as awardees:  Mellany Camero, Executive Administrative Assistant and Lisa Castro, Human Resources Assistant

Camero won the HERO Award for the Middle Management Category which is awarded to employees who demonstrate consistent outstanding performance in the course of the job, productivity of his/her department, and instills pride in service to those he/she supervises.

Castro won the HERO Award for the Non-Supervisory Category which is awarded to employees who demonstrate consistent exemplary performance in the course of the job and exhibits pride in rendering service.

The awarding ceremony was held last May 28 at the Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort.

Tan Holdings Affiliates Joins SCC’s Corporate Challenge

Tan Holdings affiliates once again joined this year’s Corporate Challenge; an event sponsored annually by the Saipan Chamber of Commerce.

The participating companies from Tan Holdings were:  CTSI Logistics/FedEx Express, D&Q Saipan, Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan and Take Care Insurance.

Prior to the challenges presented during the event last May 30, the teams were tasked to participate in the rehabilitation of the pavilions situated within the premises of the island.

A fee worth $300 was collected from each participating company.  The collected fee will go to the SCC’s educational endeavors for the NMI youth.

Tan Holdings and Affiliates Joins Relay for Life in Guam

Tan Holdings has once again expressed support in the fight against cancer by joining the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life is an annual event that seeks to exhibit unity against cancer while providing cancer victims support.

According to reports, the successful fundraising efforts for the previous year enabled the Guam field office to pay for 270 nights of lodging, provided 177 cases of ensure, 182 boxes of ostomy supplies, and 115 gift items for cancer patients.

This year’s event, which was held at the George Washington High School Track in Mangilao last May 28carried the theme Celebrate Another Birthday.

Saipan Grand Hotel Gives Away Gift Certificates to Cleanup Volunteers

Saipan Grand Hotel gave away gift certificates for the organizations that volunteered to participate in a beach cleanup last May 8.  The said beach cleanup was held in support of the May Tourism Month.

The Marianas Tourism Education Council (MTEC) and Hopwood Jr. High School MY WAVE Club were the groups who actively participated in the cleanup.

They were also joined by several representatives from the Marianas Visitors Authority, Hopwood Jr. High Student Council and the Division of Environmental Quality.

Aside from the Saipan Grand Hotel, the Pacific Islands Club Saipan also donated gift certificates.

Fiesta Guam’s Chef Leo Santiago Takes 2nd place in Culinary Competition

Chef Leo Santiago, Sous Chef of the Fiesta Resort Guam, won second place in the 2010 PHARE Professional Chef’s Competition held last May 7 at the Hyatt Regency Guam.

Judges awarded Chef Leo second place for his original recipe Grilled Lobster Salad Eggplant Pistachio Rouille with Vegetable Chips.

The judges based their decisions on taste, best use of the theme ingredients, presentation and originality.

Chef Leo received a trophy courtesy of Quality Distributors and a $300 cash prize.

The culinary competition highlighted the skills and creativity of local professionals in preparing recipes featuring live quarter lobster and local egg plant.

Saipan Grand Hotel Donates to the Commonwealth Health Center

In cooperation with Tan Siu Lin Foundation, Saipan Grand Hotel turned over hospital garments and linens to the Commonwealth Center (CHC) last May 10.

The management of Saipan Grand Hotel came up with 128 pieces of bed pads; 437 bed sheets; 1,433 pillow cases; 257 pillows; and 12 duvets and donated these to the CHC.  The turnover of the donations was also aided by Tan Siu Lin Foundation Manager Ed Arriola.

In a statement, Saipan Grand Hotel GM Ed Cho said that they are confident that the hospital will make good use of the donation.

Tan Holdings Football Club Donates Trash Cans

Fourteen trash cans were presented by the Tan Holdings Football Club during a turnover ceremony held at the Octopus field of the San Antonio Elementary School last April 20.

Aside from its impact on the beautification of the environment, Tan Holdings Football Club President Eli Arago says that they initiated the donation of trash cans to the school because it accommodated them when they had no field to regularly host their training sessions and actual games.

Tan Holdings President Jerry Tan also joined the Tan Holdings Football Club officials during the turnover ceremony.

Tan is also the president of the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association.

Asia Pacific Airlines Handles Jin Air Maintenance

Last April 20, Asia Pacific Airlines (APA) welcomed Korean airline Jin Air in its fold as they start the maintenance handling for the said airline.

Jin Air had its inaugural flight to Guam last April 20 carrying 183 passengers. This is a welcome to Guam as it opens up the island to Korean visitors with its daily flights.

The low cost airline is a subsidiary of Korean Air.

Environmental Awards for CTSI Logistics and POI Aviation’s Frank Camacho

CTSI Logistics Saipan and POI Aviation GM Frank Camacho were bestowed with awards in recognition of their contributions to various environmental efforts.
CTSI Logistics and Camacho were hailed as Environmental Champions during the 29th Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival, the biggest arts festival celebrated in Micronesia, last April 24.
“The Environmental Champion award recognizes a person or group that exemplifies the Beautify CNMI spirit. Those qualities include volunteerism, cooperation, innovation, creativity and the ability to infect others with the Beauty Virus. The Environmental Champion is a role model for others to follow. They bring environmental issues to the forefront of public consciousness. They make things happen and effect change.” These are the award descriptions from the group Beautify CNMI!.
CTSI Logistics made a mark through their last Saturday of the month clean ups at their adopted beach, Susupe Beach Park. They started the trash pick up, facility restoration and installation of trash bins last January 2009 and both team members and management have been diligent in attending this monthly activity.
Frank was recognized for his effort in helping organize the DanDan Community Watch, where he stands as Community captain. Aside from the neighborhood watch patrol, the group also helped clean Dandan Children’s Park in July 2009. “This award has inspired me to do events more and inspire more people in our community to join our group every Saturday”, Camacho said.

Fiesta Guam Donates to Haiti Earthquake Victims

To aid the victims of the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti last January 12, a total of $2200.00 was recently donated by team members of Fiesta Guam.

The donation was presented to the Guam Chapter of the American Red Cross in support of Haiti emergency relief efforts.

The 7.0 magnitude earthquake that shook Haiti last January 12 caused significant damage and took the lives of many.

Tan Holdings to Join DEQ’s A Better Environment, For a Better Marianas

In line with the iServe.iGive Back campaign of Tan Holdings, the company will be joining the Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the rest of the community in the celebration of the Environmental Awareness Month by urging its team members to participate in yet another major cleanup activity on Saipan.

With the theme A Better Environment, For a Better Marianas, the island-wide cleanup is set on April 23 for the celebration of the 27th Environmental Awareness Month.

In previous years, team members from Tan Holdings and its affiliates joined cleanup efforts at the TSL Plaza.  Last year’s records show that Tan Holdings was the largest single group of volunteers during the April 2009 island-wide cleanup.

A total of 151 volunteers from Tan Holdings were recorded at that time; this group was able to collect 147 bags of trash.
