New President for APHI

Effective September 11, Jeffrey W. Schweizer takes on the position of President, Asia Pacific Hotels, Inc. (APHI), under the Tan Holdings group.
Schweizer began his career in APHI on April 2005 as General Manager. Schweizer took part in the reopening and rebranding of the historical Dai-Ichi Hotel now known as Fiesta Resort Guam.He also has served numerous terms as a board member for the Guam Hotel and Restaurant Association (GHRA) and is currently serving as first vice chairman.
The Asia Pacific Hotels, Inc. operates the four key hotels of Tan Holdings namely; Century Hotel, Fiesta Resort Guam, Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan and the newly rebranded Kanoa Resort Saipan.

Working with the Works!

As part of Tan Holdings’ 40th year anniversary, the company donated $10, 000 to the Works! Foundation in Guam. Tan Holdings is known to show full support to organizations that help in preserving the beauty of the region. The Works! Foundation is a non-profit organization started by Atty. Naoko Shimize on April 2011. The foundation encourages the community to support the beautification of Guam. It also aims to raise awareness of the effects of littering and vandalism and promote volunteerism for the sake of the region.

Tan Holdings 40th Anniversary Sports Festival

As part of Tan Holdings’ 40 years of making good business in Micronesia, the company is holding a Sports Fest that will commence on September and continue until the end of November. The event will feature the following sports: basketball, baseball, soccer, badminton and bowling. Tan Holdings will give out cash prizes as well as sports equipment to the winners and organizations who joined the fest. The Tan Holdings Sports Fest kicked off this September with a Mountain bike race in Marpi, Saipan.

Tan Sui Lin Foundation reaches out to the Philippine flood victims

The generous arm of the Tan Sui Lin Foundation and the Tan Holdings group of companies recently provided help to the flood victims in the Philippines by donating boxes of groceries to the LBC donation drive that ended last August 31.
The TSL Foundation purchased $1,500 worth of grocery items from Tan Holdings affiliates Dickerson & Quinn (D&Q) and Cosmos Distributing Co. in which both companies provided discounted rates on the items to the foundation in order to purchase more items and donate to more victims.

LBC Mabuhay Saipan agreed to receive donations and ship them for free to the Philippine Red Cross to help the flood victims in the Philippines.

Basketball league season 2 kicks off

The Tan Holdings Inter Company Basketball League shoots for its second season on September 8.
Defending champion Fiesta Resort and Spa will go on head-to-head with teams from Shirley’s Coffee Shop, CTSI Logistics, Kanoa Resort, Pacific Oriental Inc. (POI) and JP Center.

KANOA RESORT SAIPAN DONATES TO FLOOD VICTIMS

It was a charitable gesture as Kanoa Resort Saipan donated thousands of unused white shirts to the residents of the Philippines affected by the torrential heavy rains that caused widespread flooding over the Northern Philippines in early August.
Kanoa Resort presented the boxes of clothing to the donation drive sponsored by LBC Mabuhay Saipan.
LBC Mabuhay Saipan will ship all donations for free to its partner agency, the Philippine Red Cross.

Tan Holdings participates in 2012 United Plane Pull

It was no sweat as the Tan Holdings participants towed a 145,000lbs United Airline Boeing 737 aircraft at the United Plane Pull fundraiser last April 21 held at the United Tiyan’s hangar at the Guam International Airport.
Wearing all blue, the Tan Holdings’ participants proudly raised their flag as they finished 5th and 10th place in the men’s and coed division respectively.
The United Plane Pull is an annual event hosted by United Airlines. With the theme of “Towing the Line to Save Lives”, this year’s beneficiary is the American Cancer Society, raising over $157,000 worth of donations. There were reportedly 3500 people from different companies who joined the event.

Tan Holdings: 40 years and counting!

What started as a mere family business turned into a grand enterprise. This year, Tan Holdings continues to rise beyond the horizon as the company celebrates its 40 years of success in Micronesia.
It was an all out festivity last April 10 as the family Tan were joined by government officials, business leaders and company executives at the newly renovated lobby of the Saipan Grand Hotel in Susupe for the anniversary program of Tan Holdings.
Willie Tan, chairman Dr. Tan Siu Lin’s son, conducted the program’s opening remarks where he expressed his sincerest gratitude for the support the company has received from its numerous business partners, government administrations, company employees and from the Micronesian community, to which the company is indebted for their triumphs. Willie Tan also added that Tan Holdings’ will continue to commit to help build the economy, generate jobs, develop and sustain social and environmental programs in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI), which he referred to as his second home.
Gregorio Kilili Sablan, CNMI delegate, the Senate, House of Representative and the Saipan Municipal Council all expressed their admiration to chairman Dr. Tan Sui Lin and the company in form of commemorative resolutions and plaques of appreciation. In turn, Dr. Tan Sui Lin led a series of donations that upholds his cherished causes as a token of thanks for the people of CNMI.
A Polynesian dance group greeted guests while the Marianas High School Rhythm, Harmony Glee Club and the MHS Chorale sang the U.S. and CNMI national anthems. Guests were later on treated to a feast at the hotel’s Barefoot Beach Bar immediately after the program.

Tan Holdings donates 10K to St. John’s

It was all smiles and thanks as Glenn Chapin, headmaster of St. John High School, received a check worth of $10,000 from Tan Holdings last April 7 at Fiesta Resort Hotel Saipan.
Headmaster Chapin was overjoyed and deeply appreciative upon receiving the continued support from the business community in the island. Chapin said that the money will go to a significant cause, mainly for the benefit of the school’s athletic program and is a great addition to the school’s tennis and pool sports complex that is currently under construction.
St. John High School was one of the lucky recipients of donations from tan Holdings to celebrate the company’s 40th year of doing business in Micronesia.

Tan Holdings gives out donations and scholarships to PSS and NMTI

Giving back to the community has always been Tan Holding’s main philanthropic work and what better way to show the company’s undying gratitude by contributing to the community’s educational system.
As Tan Holdings celebrates its 40th year of doing business in Micronesia, the company gives a hefty amount of $248,000.00 worth of donations and scholarships grants to the fortunate students of the Public School System (PSS) and the Northern Marianas Trade Institute (NMTI). Tan Holdings chairman, Dr. Tan Sui Lin, presented the donations and scholarships to the school administrators and education officials.
The donations were divided equally to all sectors, giving out thousands worth of sporting equipments to public schools, student funding for school fees and training and 5000 pieces of laptop sleeves as protection for the previous laptops given by Tan Holdings.
Tan Holdings’ president Jerry Tan stated that the scholarship donation will become an annual tradition to show the company’s commitment in developing the local workforce.
The presentation of donations was witnessed by key officials in the government, including Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, CNMI Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan, Senate President Paul A. Manglona, and House Speaker Eli Cabrera.

Fiesta lend hands to athletes at the 2012 Tagaman

March 30 marked as another eventful day as 21 keen volunteers from Fiesta Resort nd Spa Saipan assisted in the much-awaited 2012 Tagaman race.
The 21 volunteers handed out bottles of water, sport drinks and sanitary sponges to more than 150 athletes from around the world including athletes from Saipan. Sponsors for the event were Duty Free Shoppers (DFS) and the Marianas Visitors Authority (MVA).
The 2012 Tagaman race involved three tiring courses, swimming, biking and trail running. The race ended at the American Memorial Park.

Tan Holdings: Going Green this 2012

In celebration for the 40th year anniversary of Tan Holdings, the Tan Holdings Going Green Committee along with the company’s executives and key managers will commence a series of tree planting activities as part of the yearlong commitment to the island of Saipan.

With the utmost support and assistance from the Mariana Islands Nature Alliance (MINA) and Costal Resources Management (CRM), the group has successfully accomplished their first tree planting activity by planting a hundred flame trees by the beach area across Morgen Building to the Civic Center last March 20, 2012. The committee has chosen the exquisite flame trees. The company envisions to plant over 400-flame trees to replace the ones cut down due to age and decay.

Fiesta volunteers for the 2012 Xterra Triathlon

Eager volunteers from Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan flocked the 2012 Xterra triathlon last March 24 at Micro Beach Saipan.
There were reportedly 26 volunteers who handed out bottles of water and sport drinks to the 73 participating athletes from around the world including athletes from Saipan.
Duty Free Shoppers (DFS) and the Marianas Visitors Authority (MVA) sponsored the event.
2012 Xterra featured some of the world’s pro athletes coming from the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazail, Japan and Australia. The Xterra race is one of the best-known series of off road triathlon races involving swimming, mountain biking and trail running courses.

Big help to a big turn out for the 2012 Saipan Marathon

It was no surprise to the massive turn out for the 2012 Saipan Marathon last March 3 and with that, Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan along with several Tan Holdings affiliates seized the opportunity to lend out a helping hand for the big event.

There were reportedly 27 volunteers from Fiesta and Tan Holdings handing out bottles of cool water, sport drinks and fresh fruits to over 800 athletes from across the world including athletes from Saipan. The 2012 Saipan Marathon is sponsored by the Marianas Visitors Authority (MVA).

The Saipan Marathon is now on its 7th year this 2012, the MVA hopes for a bigger turn out next year as the Saipan Marathon is one of the island’s most signature events and shows the greatest growth potential in terms of tourism.

POI Aviation Coordinator Recognized for Invaluable Contribution

POI Aviation’s newly-employed Safety and Security Coordinator, Patrick J. Tenorio, was among those recognized from the  private and government sectors last January 18 for his contribution to the development of a port evacuation plan and  improved maritime safety measures, as required by the Department of Homeland Secutiy.

Tenorio’s role ioj this project was based on his previous assignment as CNMI Office of Homeland Security official.

Other recognized individuals were CPA seaport manager MaryAnn Q. Lizama; CNMI Office of Homeland Security’s Marvin K. Seman; Emergency Management Office’s Joaquin Omar, George Cabrera, Juan Camacho and Henry Yarofalpiy; CPA Ports Police chief Jordon Lee Kosam, assistant chief Juan Dela Cruz and Capt. Juan Rebuenog; Customs Services Division director Jesus Muna and Lt. Rick Camacho; Department of Public Safety-Fire Division’s Capt. Juan Pua; Police Officer Nober Pua of DPS Boating Safety; Department of Public Health’s Warren Villagomez; Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s Al Santos; Division of Environmental Quality’s Reina Camacho and David Chargualaf; Coastal Resources Management’s John San Nicolas; and Barbara Mizutani from the CNMI Legislature.

Tan Holdings Volunteers: Plant a Tree, Save the Environment

Before bidding farewell to 2011, Tan Holdings executives and managers initiated another effort to preserve the environment as well as to promote tourism: by planting trees. For their first tree planting activity, the group has targeted the planting of 70 tree saplings at the Susupe Beach Park. Leading the group was Tan Holdings President Jerry Tan, who was the first to plant a sapling. The tree saplings were comprised of nonak, kafu, daok, and talisai trees. Alongside these, the group also used fertilizer tablets for the activity – all of which were provided by the Mariana Islands Nature Alliance (MINA). Representing MINA at the Tan Holdings activity was MINA Executive Director Sam Sablan and board member Ryan Okano. Based on the number of volunteers who were present at the event as well as the turnout of the activity itself, the launch of the first tree planting activity of Tan Holdings was deemed successful. According to the group, they plan to continue with this Going Green initiative on a quarterly basis.

Adopt-a-Pavilion November 26 Clean up

A team went out on November 26, 2011 to do the monthly clean-up for the Adopt-A-Pavilion program of Tan Holdings.

15 bags or approximately 225 lbs of trash were collected by the group of 25 employees.  A breakfast in honor of the October & November birthday celebrators followed right after the clean-up.

D&Q Participates in Trunk or Treat

D&Q was invited to participate in this year’s Trunk or Treat, an event for the community’s kids spearheaded by the rangers from the American Memorial Park every Halloween.

The event offers a safe environment where kids can enjoy the Halloween spirit and load up on candy and other goodies without having to walk around the villages. D&Q sent a team to hand out drinks, cookies, chips and candy bars to around 2,000 kids from 3 pm to 8 pm.

D&Q was represented by Marilyn Marron, sales manager Saipan and Pacific Islands, Abby Inabo, P&G brand manager, Paython Rdiall, merchandiser and John Benevente merchandiser
