NMC ANNOUNCES TAN HOLDINGS SCHOLAR AVAILABILITY
Saipan, June 12, 2007 – Northern Marianas College is pleased to announce the availability of the Tan Holdings Scholarship for the Fall 2007 semester. Tan Holdings will award up to ten $1,000 scholarships to ten deserving full- or part-time NMC students at the beginning of the Fall 2007 semester. Six students from Saipan, two students from Tinian, and two students from Rota will receive the scholarships.
The purpose of the Tan Holdings Scholarship program is to promote higher education by providing financial assistance for college students in their pursuit of professional careers. In addition, the program will help alleviate the critical current and future shortage of skilled and trained workforce for the CNMI and provide current public and private sector employees with opportunities to improve their knowledge and skills, and enhance their career and professional development.
President of Tan Holdings, Mr. Jerry Tan presented a check in the amount of $10,000 to NMC President, Dr. Carmen Fernandez to fund the scholarship.
NMC President Dr. Fernandez commented, “We are grateful to Tan Holdings for making a strong commitment to the community and our students. We know that our students will avail themselves of this great opportunity provided by Mr. Tan and his organization. It is through great corporate citizens like Tan Holding that we can realize a revitalized CNMI.”
Through the Tan Holdings Scholarship Program, the program awards scholarships semi-annually (based on availability of funds) to students pursuing a degree at NMC. The scholarships will be awarded based on merit, eligibility and the content of each student’s written essay.
Applicants may obtain an application packet from the NMC Financial Aid Office in Bldg. N-2 and the NMC Administration Office in Tinian and Rota. All applications and required documents must be received by the NMC Financial Aid Office on or before the deadline of each respective academic semester (Fall and/or Spring) of the year for which the scholarship is to be awarded. The application is on a yearly basis and is renewable upon the availability of funds. The deadline for the fall semester scholarship is July 15, 2007.
